Welcome to a revolutionary new way to shoot underwater video!  Emerald Diving, in conjunction with GMS Concepts, is proud to a present an alternative to bulky, complicated, and expensive underwater video systems.

This compact system utilizes Twenty20 ContourHD 1080p sports camcorder with a custom built H20V enclosure.  The ContourHD camcorder is designed to be worn by recreational enthusiasts to capture activities of all sorts.  This video camera is very easy to use, durable, and compact.  The camcorder only weights 4.3 ounces, but provides a wide field of view of up to 135 degrees.  The software included with the ContourHD cameras allows for configuration of  key video parameters, including exposure level, sharpness, contrast, audio gain level, and metering, The ContourHD 1080p captures video in four different video formats (480p, 720p, 960p, 1080p) and two different frame rates (30 and 60 frames per second).

The ContourHD camcorder utilize a rechargable and replaceable lithium-ion battery.  The camcorder typically record for two to three hours on a full charge.  Both models also utilize microSD cards to store video files.  Although 2GB cards are included, both camcorders will accept up to 16GB cards which capture up to 4 hours of video at 1080p HD, 8 hours at 720p HD, or 16 hours at 480p SD. Please see www.vholdr.com for more information regarding the ContourHD camcorder.

The H2OV custom video enclosure is pressure tested to 300 feet.  The "full controls" model of the housing allows for external operation of the power button and record on/off slider.  A "no controls" model of the housing is also available.  The housing of both models measures a compact 2.125” wide, 3.125” tall, and 4.75” long.  Since the unique lens on the ContourHD can be rotated 180 degrees, the housing can be mounted upright or flat.  With the housing and camcorder combined, you will easily be able to capture all the action during your underwater endeavors.

Unlike traditional video cameras, the ContourHD camcorder does not have a viewfinder.  The system is designed to be mounted to your hand by use of a strap-handle or fixed to your diving equipment (such as a scooter or possibly even a tank).  With the wide field of view, simply point the camcorder in the general direction of the targeted subject and start recording.  Although the wide angle lens of the ContourHD is not ideal for getting detailed video of a 2” shrimp scurrying across the reef, it is an excellent camera for taking in the splendor of a large wreck, getting video of your dive buddy on a colorful reef,  or capturing the magnificence of a school of fish, especially in water with good visibility loaded with ambient light.  Generally speaking, the camera does well with underwater subjects larger than 8".

One of the many unique benefits of the H2OV/ContourHD underwater video system is its compact size.  Unlike conventional underwater video setups, the H2OV  can shoot video with one-hand operation.  With the hand-strap, the system can be stored on the back of one hand, leaving the diver's  hands relatively free when the camera is not in use.  The small size of the housing also allows the system to be easily tucked in out of the way when swimming - it is even small enough to even be stored  in many drysuit pockets.  And at about 1 pound in total weight, the H2OV/ContourHD underwater system makes an excellent and efficient travel video system.
Both ContourHD camcorders include a basic video editing software package.  The video recorded by the ContourHD is editable with any video editor that accepts .MOV video format.  And of course, the ContourHD can be used to video countless other recreations, on and off the water.  The camcorder is built by Seattle based Twenty20, Inc., a leader in wearable sports camcorder technology and design. The Contour HD includes a one year warranty (provided you register the camera).  The H2OV housing is hand-built in Seattle by GMS Concepts and also includes a one-year warranty.

Example Video

This video was taken in the Port Hardy area - arguably the best cold water diving location in the world.  All footage in this video was taken with the H2OV/ContourHD video system.  Depths ranged from near the surface to 106 feet. Most f teh video was shot int he 50-80 foot range.   Underwater visibility ranged from 70 feet in Browning Pass to 25 feet when diving with the stellar sea lions. Lighting used as a hand-held HID light (my standard light) with a video reflector.

NOTE:  There is a bug in Firebox that will not allow this video format to play properly.  However, it plays properly with Internet Explorer, Safari, or Chrome.

Left:  Optional hand-strap for the H2OV.  The hand-strap makes transporting and shooting video in the water with the H2OV very easy.  With the camera and housing stored on the back to the hand, then hand is still relatively free for use while in the water.  Two hand straps are available  - an industrial velcro strap and a webbing strap.  The webbing strap is better with neoprene gloves.

YouTube clip from the Red Sea - where the vis is good!  This is is a brief clip of a diver using the H2OV and is taken with an H2OV.  It give you some idea of the systems performance in tropical waters.
Below:  Want to shoot video and stills at the saem time?  No problem with the H2OV!  I mounted the H2OV to my SLR housing while diving Port Hardy.  The H2OV is the small box above the SLR lens dome.  The video system was out of the way.   When I wanted to shoot video, I simply turned the record knob on the H2OV housing.
